چکیده

Eddy current testing is an effective way of detecting fatigue cracks and corrosion in conductive materials. The cost of using the technology is low, and the devices can monitor subsurface defects and defects under insulating coatings without touching the surface of the specimen. Although this technique is applicable for many tasks, the aircraft and nuclear power industries are the primary users of eddy current probes for in-service inspection. Because safety-critical systems depend on early detection of fatigue cracks to avoid major failures, there’s an increasing need for eddy current probes that can reliably detect very small defects. Also there are increasing demands for probes that can detect deeply buried defects to avoid disassembling structures.

Design of Nondestructive System for Hardness of Carbonitrided Steel Parts ‎Using Eddy Current Testing Method: Case study on the Tappet Parts

In this paper, a non-destructive eddy current test system was designed to evaluate the surface hardness of the carbonitrided steel parts. For this purpose, various samples of the tappet were used after the surface hardening and grinding operations as control samples and, if necessary, were subjected to destructive and non-destructive tests. Microstructural studies were performed with a microsco...

A New Model for Prediction of Heat Eddy Diffusivity in Pipe Expansion Turbulent Flows

A new model to calculate heat eddy diffusivity in separating and reattaching flows based on modification of constant Prt is proposed. This modification is made using an empirical correlation between maximum Nusselt number and entrance Reynolds number. The model includes both the simplicity of Prt=0.9 assumption and the accuracy of two-equation heat-transfer models. Furthermore, an appropriate l...

QUALITY CONTROL OF PRECIPITATION HARDENED ALUMINIUM ALLOY PARTS VIA EDDY-CURRENT NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION

Precipitation hardening is the most common method in the strengthening of aluminium alloys. This method relies on the decrease of solid solubility with temperature reduction to produce fine precipitations which impede the movement of dislocations. The quality control of aluminium alloy specimens is an important concern of engineers. Among different methods, non-destructive techniques are the...

Eddy-current non-inertial displacement sensing for underwater infrasound measurements.

A non-inertial sensing approach for an Acoustic Vector Sensor (AVS), which utilizes eddy-current displacement sensors and operates well at Ultra-Low Frequencies (ULF), is described here. In the past, most ULF measurements (from mHertz to approximately 10 Hertz) have been conducted using heavy geophones or seismometers that must be installed on the seafloor; these sensors are not suitable for wa...

Quantitative measuring of pearlite in carbon steels using electromagnetic sensor

Non-destructive Eddy current (EC) technique has long been used to detect discontinuities in materials. Recently, its application has been extended to characterize materials microstructure. In order to identify different microstructures, four plain carbon steel bars with different chemical compositions (AISI 1015, 1035, 1045 and 1080) were used in annealed condition. The pearlite percentage, car...
